Choosing the Brief...
Collaborative partner: Roxxie Blackham
We had to analyse each brief and make a list of the pros and cons for each brief to help make a decision on which one to work with.
Dnad: The Body Shop
Pros
-Good range of material to design for two people
-Different media to apply design to: Print+Web
-Primary research is easy accessible
-The guidelines are not strict which allows for creative control, must use logo.
Cons
-Wide target audience, makes it harder to target a specific audience
-Vague with information regarding products
Dnad: Xl Recordings
Pros
-Depending on artist, gives a specific target audience to design for
-Allows to utilise different skills e.g. hand rendered, digital...
-Doesn't have strict guidelines, allows for creative control
Cons
-Too much choice in regards to artists, could be difficult to design appropriate outcome.
-Deliverables are limited, not a lot of work for two people
-More illustration based rather than graphic design
-No defined idea of what they are looking for
YCN: Oasis
Pros
-They specified what messages they want you to communicate
-Allows for the opportunity to re-write the brief to appeal to a wider audience e.g. make it relevant to males as well as women.
Cons
-Target audience isn't defined enough to design for
-Confusing concept, hard to link the defined messages with a creative output
After analysing the briefs we made the decision to work with the Dnad: The Body Shop brief because we felt it had the most scope and opportunity to create a good body of research for both of us.
Next we had to fill out a contract to define specific roles that we will adhere to through the brief.
