Design for Web

History:

The internet was created in 1991 by the company CERN

Tim Burner-Lee was the scientist that came up with the idea

At the start all web pages were text based

The first web server was created by Steve Jobs under the company 'NeXT

By 1992 the first image was displayed on the web.

Terminology

HTTP - hyper text transfer protocol 

URL - uniform resource locator 

HTML - hyper text markup language 

CSS - cascading style sheets

FTP - file transfer protocol 

CMS - content management system

SKEUOMORPHISM - imitates something physical 

RESPONSIVE - can adapt to a variety of media e.g. smartphone 


When designing for screen you should ask yourself:

- Whats the point?

- What is the purpose of the website?

- Who are the target audience?

- What do the target audience need?

Thin, boring, dated


Nauseating, cluttered, busy, confusing
