OUGD504- Website Analysis

We have been asked to analyse five websites by answering the following questions:

- What is the purpose of the website?

- Who are the target audience?

- What do the target audience need?

Busy, cluttered, unorganised

http://www.asda.com

The purpose of the website is to display the products available in the Asda store. I think the site is aimed towards people with a busy lifestyle that may not have time to go into a store to shop. The target audience needs a well organised and easy to use site. However, I feel it does not fulfil this function because of the high amount of information and the bad organisation of content. I use this website myself and it takes ages to complete the order. I believe this is down to pagination.

Type, overbearing

http://www.experimentaljetset.nl

The purpose of the website is to showcase their work towards potential clients. The homepage is text orientated which is extremely functional, disregarding any form. The high impact of information can be daunting which could lose the viewers interest. However, the style has modernist tendencies which reflects the type of work they produce. I think colour could be incorporated to act as a method of hierarchy and organisation.

Minimal, clear, modern

 http://www.iamyuna.com

This website is an online portfolio of work that aims to showcase work and target potential clients. The shapes are used to separate each area of design she specialise in whilst creating a playful and engaging experience due to the movement when the curser hovers over. Its well organised and clear but the only downfall is you have to explore the site to know how it works. However, I don't think this is a bad thing because it engages the viewer and makes you want to explore the content which is the purpose.

Clear, simple, organised

http://www.itsnicethat.com

The purpose of this website is to display art and design examples for the user to explore. It targets creatives interested in any field of art and design. It uses a simple three column layout that displays an image with a short description underneath. The system is designed to allow quick browsing so you can further explore the content you are interested in. This fulfils the users needs as it allows to cover more content quickly and efficiently.

Tacky, childish, fake

http://www.ideator.ca

The purpose of the site is to generate name ideas for different topics. It targets people that may not have the creativity or motivation to do so. The website uses skeuomorpic design to create a user friendly experience. However, the animation and the sound affects combined with the design, cheaply imitate the familiar creating a tacky experience.
